The Las Vegas Raiders faced an unexpected challenge when wide receiver Michael Gallup retired abruptly before the start of training camp.
This unexpected vacancy prompted the team to act swiftly. On July 24, the Raiders announced the signing of wide receiver Keelan Doss.
Keelan Doss
Fans may remember Doss, who initially joined the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2019.
Hailing from Alameda, California, Doss quickly became a fan favorite, especially during the team’s stint on HBO’s “Hard Knocks.” Despite his popularity, Doss struggled to secure a significant role with the team, appearing in nine games over two seasons and recording 11 receptions for 133 yards.
In recent years, Doss has played for several teams, spending the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers. Interestingly, Raiders general manager Tom Telesco, who was with the Chargers during Doss’s tenure, is familiar with the wide receiver’s potential. At 6-foot-3, Doss brings the physical attributes desired in an X-receiver, and with Gallup’s departure, he has a chance to earn a roster spot.
The Raiders also bolstered their offensive line by signing Corey Luciano, a center who previously played for the San Francisco 49ers.
Luciano has a connection with Raiders offensive line coach James Cregg, under whom he played last season. While the Raiders have established starters at center, Luciano could be a valuable addition to the practice squad.
In other news, the Raiders still boast one of the league’s top wide receivers in Davante Adams. Despite being 31, Adams remains highly productive. NFL.com recently ranked him as the sixth-best player over 30. Despite a challenging season with multiple quarterbacks, Adams’ exceptional skills continue to set him apart, promising another strong season ahead.
