Brandon Aiyuk, the talented wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, finds himself at the center of a contract standoff, with the Pittsburgh Steelers and his current team both making competitive offers.
According to a report by Albert Breer of The MMQB, the Steelers extended an offer just shy of $28 million, mirroring a similar proposal from the 49ers.
This has led Aiyuk to return to the negotiating table with San Francisco, despite the appeal of potentially joining a team led by coach Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh.
Interestingly, Aiyuk’s decision isn’t solely driven by financial incentives. Although the New England Patriots reportedly offered him over $30 million, Aiyuk declined due to concerns about the team’s competitiveness this season.
His willingness to accept a slightly lower offer to play in Pittsburgh had been noted earlier, but with the 49ers’ offer closely matching the Steelers’, Aiyuk’s next move remains uncertain.
Previously, Aiyuk was seeking a $28 million annual deal but opted to reject such offers. Now, as negotiations with the 49ers continue over minor contract details, Aiyuk faces the dilemma of choosing between two nearly identical offers or risking overplaying his hand.
