LeBron James has recently disclosed that his latest contract with the Los Angeles Lakers might be his last.

This revelation has sparked speculation about the potential end of his remarkable career. On July 3, James signed a two-year deal worth $101.4 million, with a player option for the second year. If he completes this contract, James will have played 23 seasons in the NBA, setting a new record for longevity.

In a conversation with ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, James spoke candidly about his future in the league.

“I mean, it could be [the last contract I will ever sign],” James said. “I’d never sit up here and say, ‘Oh, maybe not.’ Yeah, it could be. Easily. But we’ll see what happens.”

Although he remains non-committal, it is clear that James is contemplating his career’s end, despite continuing to play at a high level.

At 39, James continues to deliver impressive performances, averaging 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.3 rebounds per game last season. His efforts earned him his 20th All-Star appearance and a spot on the Third-Team All-NBA.

James has also expressed pride in playing alongside his son, Bronny James, who was selected by the Lakers in this year’s draft. LeBron admires Bronny’s resilience in the face of criticism and believes in his potential.

Despite the Lakers’ failure to make significant moves in free agency, James remains optimistic. The team targeted players like Klay Thompson, DeMar DeRozan, and Jonas Valanciunas but couldn’t finalize any deals.

“It takes two to tango,” James remarked.

He understands the nature of the business and is content with the team’s efforts.

Currently, James is in camp with Team USA, preparing for upcoming challenges alongside his Lakers co-star Anthony Davis. As fans and analysts speculate about his future, James remains focused on the present, continuing to contribute significantly to the sport he has dominated for two decades.
