Leeds United has declined an offer from Real Betis for their Spanish defender Diego Llorente, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Contrary to Fabrizio Romano’s claim on X on July 7th that Llorente had agreed to a four-year contract with Real Betis for a fee of approximately £2.5 million, the Yorkshire Evening Post later confirmed that Leeds United had rejected the bid.

Llorente, who has two years remaining on his contract with Leeds, was reportedly keen to move to Real Betis, with Romano’s announcement suggesting that the deal was nearly finalized. However, the latest developments indicate that Leeds is not ready to part ways with the 30-year-old defender just yet.

Despite Llorente’s apparent lack of a future at Elland Road, and Leeds’ demonstrated ability to compete without him, the refusal could stem from disagreements over the payment structure or the transfer fee. Fans might be optimistic that an agreement will eventually be reached, considering the mutual interest in concluding the deal.

Meanwhile, Leeds United is actively seeking a replacement for Archie Gray, an indication that they are prepared for Llorente’s potential departure.

The situation remains fluid, with both clubs expected to continue negotiations to finalize the transfer.
