In a strategic move to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season, Leeds United is closely monitoring Liam Millar, a dynamic winger who made a significant impact in the Championship last season while on loan at Preston North End.

The club is determined to build a team capable of securing automatic promotion after narrowly missing out last season, culminating in a 1-0 defeat to Southampton in the play-off final.

Millar, a 24-year-old Canada international with 26 caps, is on Leeds’ radar as a potential key addition. Known for his ‘electric’ playing style, a term used by former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, Millar scored five goals and provided five assists during his loan spell, including a standout performance against Leeds.

Currently contracted to Basel with one year remaining, Millar has a release clause that makes a summer transfer highly probable. Leeds appears to be the frontrunner in securing his services, a move seen as pivotal to their promotion ambitions.

The pursuit of Millar is partly driven by the imminent departure of Crysencio Summerville.

The Dutch winger is attracting serious interest from Brighton and Hove Albion, leaving a gap that Leeds aims to fill with Millar or potentially Norwich City’s Jonathan Rowe.

Rowe, another talented winger, scored 12 goals last season despite an injury setback, but his acquisition would demand a substantial financial investment.

As Leeds United readies for the new season, these targeted transfers highlight their commitment to assembling a robust squad capable of dominating the Championship and achieving their goal of returning to the Premier League.
