Leeds United finds itself at the center of several significant moves and potential deals.
While the European Championships in Germany capture fans’ attention, Leeds is busy reshaping its squad for the upcoming season.
Brenden Aaronson has been confirmed to remain with Leeds for the 2024/25 campaign. Meanwhile, Jack Harrison is expected to embark on a second loan spell at Everton, with the deal nearing finalization.
A major focus is on Crysencio Summerville, who had a standout season with 21 goals and 10 assists. Despite his impressive performance, Leeds’ failure to secure promotion has made his departure likely.
Journalist Graeme Bailey suggests Brighton is leading the race to sign Summerville, with Liverpool and Chelsea showing interest but not making formal moves.
Summerville’s exit is anticipated to bring in around £30 million, a significant profit from his initial £1.5 million signing in 2020.
“I think Leeds will be getting closer to £30m than £40m. Brighton are in for him, having lost Ansu Fati. Liverpool has ruled themselves out, and Chelsea hasn’t made any serious approach. Brighton is in pole position,”Bailey commented.
In another transfer twist, hopes to re-sign Joe Rodon have dimmed.
Reports indicate that a deal for the defender has collapsed, with Rodon likely to join a Premier League team instead.
The newly-promoted clubs Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton have shown interest. Rodon was a key figure in Leeds’ defense last season, but the financial demands of another Championship season make his return unlikely.
Tottenham reportedly lowered Rodon’s asking price to £10 million, but this remains out of Leeds’ budget. Leeds will now look for other defensive reinforcements, with the futures of Liam Cooper and Charlie Cresswell also uncertain.
As Leeds United prepares for another challenging season, these transfer activities highlight the club’s strategic moves to strengthen its squad amidst financial and competitive pressures.
