Leeds United’s prospects of retaining Wilfried Gnonto this summer have improved as Everton’s chances of securing a deal for the Italian look increasingly unlikely.

According to iSport, transferring Gnonto from Elland Road to Goodison Park is proving to be a difficult task. Everton faced similar challenges last summer when bids up to £25 million for the 20-year-old were turned down. Gnonto even attempted to force his way out of Leeds to return to the top flight but was ultimately held to his contract, which runs until 2027.

Despite Everton’s genuine interest, and Gnonto’s keenness on the move, iSport reports that the deal remains challenging.

TEAMtalk previously suggested Everton were optimistic about signing the winger this summer, hoping to outmaneuver Newcastle United, who are also interested. However, Aston Villa, another potential suitor, appear to be ending their pursuit as they close in on signing Jaden Philogene instead.

Leeds United are under no pressure to sell Gnonto or Crysencio Summerville following the sale of Archie Gray to Spurs, which alleviated their financial concerns. According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds are not actively looking to move either player and will only consider deals on their terms. Planet Sport indicates that a bid of around £22 million could prompt Leeds to part with Gnonto.

Last season, Gnonto made 36 league appearances for Leeds under Daniel Farke, starting in 19 of those games and contributing eight goals and two assists. Despite his willingness to leave, Leeds are confident in retaining him for their promotion campaign. While the club’s financial situation isn’t ideal, selling Gnonto for around £20 million could facilitate crucial recruitment to bolster their squad for a successful promotion push.

Ultimately, Leeds are focused on achieving promotion in the upcoming campaign, and retaining key players like Gnonto will be instrumental. However, should the right offer come in, they might be open to cashing in on the talented young forward.
