The Detroit Lions, currently on a two-game winning streak with a 3-1 record and in second place in the NFC North, are looking to enhance their defense during their Week 5 bye.
Despite strong individual performances, particularly from star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, who leads the league with 6.5 sacks, the Lions’ defense still has room for improvement. The team ranks 22nd in yards allowed per game (349.0) and 30th in passing yards allowed per game (258.3).
In light of these defensive gaps, Bleacher Report has suggested that the Lions should consider acquiring New York Jets pass rusher Haason Reddick.
Reddick, a two-time Pro Bowler, is holding out due to a contract dispute and has yet to play this season. He was traded to the Jets in March after signing a three-year, $45 million deal with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022. With Detroit suffering a blow due to Marcus Davenport’s season-ending injury, Reddick’s consistent performance of at least 11 sacks per season could provide much-needed support alongside Hutchinson.
With $40 million in salary cap space, the Lions are well-positioned to make this move, potentially addressing both short-term and long-term needs.
