Liverpool are reportedly planning a bold move to sign Everton’s young center-back, Jarrad Branthwaite, as the summer transfer window draws to a close, according to a report by The Sun.

The 22-year-old defender had been previously linked with a move to Manchester United earlier in the transfer window. Despite United’s strong interest and a substantial £50 million bid, Everton rejected the offer, holding out for a higher fee.

However, it now appears that Branthwaite could still be on the move, this time to Liverpool. The Sun reports that Liverpool’s head coach, Arne Slot, is a significant admirer of Branthwaite’s talents. The Reds are said to be preparing a bid of £63 million, with an additional £7 million in potential add-ons, bringing the total value of the deal to £70 million.

The report suggests that Liverpool are increasingly confident of reaching an agreement with Everton, and Branthwaite himself is reportedly open to the move. The young defender’s current weekly wage of £60,000 could potentially triple if he joins the Anfield club, making the move even more appealing.

Liverpool have been active in the transfer market, recently selling Sepp van den Berg to Brentford for £30 million and holding out for a higher fee for Joe Gomez after rejecting a £45 million offer from Newcastle United. In addition, 19-year-old midfielder Bobby Clark has moved to Red Bull Salzburg for £10 million.

If Liverpool succeeds in securing Branthwaite, the Englishman’s defensive skills and ball-playing ability would be crucial assets in Slot’s tactical setup. His addition could prove to be a significant and strategic acquisition for the club as they finalize their summer transfer dealings.
