Manchester United’s interest in signing Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite is contingent upon securing funds from the potential sale of Mason Greenwood.
According to Chris Wheeler from the Daily Mail, Marseille has made a £27 million bid for Greenwood, who is anticipated to leave Old Trafford this summer.
Wheeler highlighted via Twitter on July 8 that Manchester United’s ability to finance Branthwaite’s transfer hinges on the successful sale of Greenwood.
United has already submitted a second bid for Branthwaite, offering £45 million upfront plus an additional £5 million in add-ons. However, this offer falls significantly short of Everton’s valuation of around £70 million for the 22-year-old defender.
Everton holds a strong negotiating position due to Manchester United’s financial constraints. The Merseyside club is confident in Branthwaite’s potential and is determined to secure a substantial fee for his transfer. If Manchester United cannot raise the necessary funds from Greenwood’s sale or other player transactions, they may have to abandon their pursuit of Branthwaite.
For Everton, retaining Branthwaite would be advantageous, as the young defender has been an integral part of their defensive lineup. The club’s firm stance on the player’s valuation reflects their strategy to either secure a significant transfer fee or continue benefiting from his contributions on the field.
