Manchester United is in the market for a new centre-back this summer, with Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt emerging as a key target.

The necessity for this acquisition is underscored by the need to replace Raphael Varane and to secure a player capable of consistent performance without injury setbacks.

Currently, Everton’s jarrad Branthwaite is considered the top priority for this position. Manchester United is in the market for a new centre-back this summer, with Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt emerging as a key target.

United may find themselves priced out of a deal for Branthwaite, whose valuation by Everton stands at £70 million. In light of this potential financial hurdle, the club is exploring alternative options.

De Ligt, who is 24 years old, is one of the primary candidates being discussed alongside Branthwaite and Leny Yoro. According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United remains interested in De Ligt, who could be available for a suitable offer.

Erik ten Hag is reported to be a strong admirer of the Dutch centre-back. De Ligt, valued at around £42 million by United, represents a more economical option compared to Branthwaite.

De Ligt’s career has been notable for his early rise to prominence, breaking into Ajax’s first team at a young age. Despite his experience, he still has many years ahead in his professional career.

For now, United supporters will need to be patient. Any concrete negotiations are expected to occur only after the European Championships, as De Ligt is currently focused on his commitments with the Netherlands national team.
