In LSU’s 34-17 win against UCLA, junior tight end Mason Taylor once again demonstrated his pivotal role in the Tigers’ offense.
Known for his reliability, Taylor provided key plays throughout the game, helping quarterback Garrett Nussmeier when completions were needed most. He played a crucial part in setting up a 45-yard touchdown by Kyle Parker and made a vital 33-yard catch that contributed to the game-winning drive in the third quarter.
Taylor, who finished the game with eight catches for 77 yards, became LSU’s all-time leader in receiving yards for a tight end, reaching 999 career yards.
Coach Brian Kelly praised him, highlighting how the media had overlooked Taylor at the start of the season.
“Now he’s the all-time leading receiver for a tight end, and suddenly everyone’s talking about him,” Kelly said.
Despite LSU’s struggles with the running game, averaging just 3.6 yards per carry, Taylor’s consistency has been a safety net for Nussmeier, who threw for 352 yards and three touchdowns.
Taylor’s performance has been vital to LSU’s success, especially as the team faces tougher opponents in the coming weeks.
