Despite some claims that All-Star shooter Klay Thompson is past his prime, the Dallas Mavericks eagerly acquired him from the Golden State Warriors recently.

General Manager Nico Harrison described signing Thompson as an easy decision.

Thompson joined the Mavericks through a historic six-team trade, which also brought a 2025 second-round draft pick to Dallas. In return, the Mavericks traded fourth-year swingman Josh Green and a second-round pick. This move pairs Thompson with Mavericks stars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, forming a powerful Big Three in Dallas.

Known for his elite three-point shooting and perimeter defense, Thompson is a perfect fit for the Mavericks, who reached the NBA Finals last season. His career three-point shooting percentage of 41.9% is expected to help Dallas overcome their three-point shooting challenges from the Finals.

Harrison’s strategy to enhance the Mavericks’ roster continues with this high-profile acquisition. Thompson chose Dallas over other teams, motivated by the opportunity to win more championships alongside Doncic and Irving. This move solidifies the Mavericks as strong contenders for the next NBA season.

Despite a perceived decline last season, Thompson maintained solid performance averages with 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game, while shooting 38% from three-point range. His departure from the Warriors marks the end of an era, but his upcoming debut with the Mavericks is highly anticipated.

Fans are eager to see if Harrison’s decision will pay off, potentially leading Dallas to new heights in the NBA.
