The Miami Heat have re-signed guard Dru Smith to a two-way contract for the second consecutive season.

Smith, who played in nine games last season, averaged 4.3 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game before a knee injury prematurely ended his season in November. His return signals the team’s ongoing commitment to his development and potential contributions on the court.

In addition to Smith’s re-signing, the Heat have bolstered their roster with new talent. First-round draft pick Kel’el Ware, selected 15th overall from Indiana, has inked a four-year, $20.5 million contract. Ware’s arrival is expected to enhance the Heat’s frontcourt significantly.

Last season, Ware showcased his skills with impressive stats, averaging 15.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, 1.87 blocks, and 1.5 assists per game, while shooting 58.6 percent from the field. His presence may eventually allow Bam Adebayo to shift to power forward, potentially altering the team’s dynamics.

The Heat have also signed forward Keshad Johnson to a two-way contract. Johnson, a former teammate of Heat second-round pick Pelle Larsson at Arizona, was a Pac-12 All-Defensive Team honorable mention.

During his senior season, Johnson started all 36 games for the Wildcats, averaging 11.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.00 steals per game. He displayed solid shooting skills with a 53 percent field goal percentage, 38.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 71 percent from the free-throw line.

Johnson is set to join Larsson and Ware in the Las Vegas summer league, which begins on July 13.

These strategic moves highlight the Miami Heat’s focus on strengthening their roster and preparing for a competitive season ahead. The combination of experienced players and promising new talent positions the team to make significant strides in the upcoming NBA season.
