Nottingham Forest have exceeded expectations under Nuno Espirito Santo this season, moving beyond their usual relegation battles to lay solid foundations in the Premier League.
A key factor in their strong start is the remarkable resurgence of Chris Wood, who has been named the Premier League’s most improved player by Michael Owen and Karen Carney.
Speaking on the Premier League’s official website, Owen and Carney highlighted Wood’s transformation this season.
“He’s a completely different player now,” Carney stated. “You can see the confidence Nuno has instilled in him.” Owen added, “Wood has gone from a squad player to a consistent goal scorer. His eight goals in 11 appearances speak for themselves.”
Under Espirito Santo, Wood has flourished, scoring 19 goals across all competitions since the manager’s arrival. His form starkly contrasts with his performances under former coach Steve Cooper, where he managed only four goals.
According to Owen, “Nuno has given Wood the freedom and trust to play his best football.”
Wood now aims to maintain his scoring streak and finish among the Premier League’s top scorers, demonstrating his evolution into one of Forest’s most vital players.
