Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin shared high praise for quarterback Justin Fields during a press conference on Tuesday, but he remains undecided on who will officially be the team’s starting quarterback.

Fields, currently in line to start in the upcoming fourth game of the season, has led the Steelers to an impressive 3-0 start. Tomlin acknowledged that Fields’ performance has been strong, stating:

“There’s no question Justin has played well. And that’s exciting for him and for us.”

Tomlin highlighted Fields’ calm demeanor and competitive nature as key attributes, explaining:

“I like his steady demeanor. He doesn’t ride the emotional roller coaster when things are going good or bad. Guys can rally around that. He’s steady, a competitor, and aggressive in play.”

Fields has completed 73.3 percent of his passes this season, amassing 518 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, while adding 90 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Tomlin emphasized the importance of continuous improvement, saying:

“I want to see him improve in all areas.”

The head coach also pointed out that the Steelers’ offense needs to start stronger, particularly on third downs, which will be crucial for Fields to retain his starting role.
