Decamerion Richardson’s Potential Addition to Dallas Cowboys’ Defensive Backfield.

Reports suggest that the Dallas Cowboys are eyeing Mississippi State cornerback Decamerion Richardson as a prospective addition to their roster.

A prominent figure in the SEC, Richardson distinguished himself as a starting corner for the Bulldogs. His athletic prowess was evident at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, hinting at his potential to thrive alongside the Cowboys.

NFL analyst Lance Zierlein, in his breakdown on NFL.com, sheds light on Richardson’s capabilities as the draft draws near.

“Two-year starting cornerback with outstanding physical features but below-average coverage features,” Zierlein wrote of the 6-2, 188-pound prospect.

“He’s leggy with below-average lateral transitions and change of direction in space.

Richardson doesn’t play with enough anticipation or short-area burst to make plays on the ball but does have a big make-up gear in a straight line.

He’s OK as a tackler but should get better with a greater focus in that department.

Richardson’s size and top-end speed will immediately garner attention, but he doesn’t appear to have the skill set to play safety and will be limited by a narrow scheme fit.”

Cowboys defensive backfield boost.

Should Richardson join the Cowboys, he would bolster a secondary already fortified by cornerbacks Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland.

Bland’s remarkable performance, stepping up in the wake of Diggs’ injury, earned him recognition as a first-team All-Pro selection, with an impressive league record of interceptions.

Diggs, known for his ball-hawking skills, has amassed 18 interceptions over four seasons, with a standout 11 interceptions in the 2021 season alone.

With Richardson potentially joining their ranks, the Cowboys’ defensive backfield could become even more formidable, poised for success in the upcoming NFL season.
