Nottingham Forest journalist Matt Davies has expressed his hopes that Tottenham Hotspur’s Brennan Johnson could replace Anthony Elanga in 12 months if the latter were to leave the club.
Forest had a busy transfer window, bringing in 11 new players, though they also offloaded over 20 players, including those returning from underwhelming loan spells. Anthony Elanga, one of Forest’s key players, was the subject of transfer interest from Newcastle United on deadline day, but the club held firm on their £50 million valuation.
While Elanga remains with Forest for now, speculation suggests Newcastle’s interest could reignite in the future, especially if they secure European football. Should Elanga depart next summer, Davies believes Johnson would be an ideal replacement.
Johnson, a former Forest academy graduate, was sold to Tottenham for £47.5 million last summer, a move driven by Forest’s need to comply with financial fair play rules. Although Johnson has had a tough start at Tottenham, recently deleting his social media accounts due to criticism from fans, he remains a proven Premier League talent.
Last season, he contributed five goals and 10 assists, nearly matching Elanga’s output.
