Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix delivered an impressive performance during Sunday night’s preseason game, but his status as the team’s starting quarterback remains undecided.
Head coach Sean Payton, speaking after the game, praised Nix’s efforts but was clear that no decisions have been made regarding the starting quarterback role.
“He’s played well,” Payton acknowledged. However, he refrained from making any formal announcements, stating, “I’m not announcing any starting quarterback tonight. I’ll let you guys know when the time comes. I thought he played well.”
Payton also commended the performances of quarterbacks Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson, who, like Nix, contributed to the Broncos’ preseason victory over the Green Bay Packers by leading successful touchdown drives.
“Their job is to lead the offense downfield and score points, and they all had touchdown drives,” Payton remarked.
Despite Payton’s reluctance to declare a starter, it appears Nix is the frontrunner. The Broncos used their 12th overall pick in the draft to acquire Nix, signaling their confidence in his potential as a starting quarterback.
While Payton isn’t ready to make an announcement, many expect Nix to be named QB1 before the regular season kicks off.
