Jessica Pegula recently discussed her decision to step back from doubles play with Coco Gauff, signaling a possible end to their successful partnership this season.
The American duo, fan favorites on the WTA tour, has won five titles together and both players have reached the World No.1 doubles ranking.
However, their collaboration has been limited this year, with Pegula’s injury restricting them to just six tournaments. Their disappointing second-round exit at the Paris Olympic Games further underscored their challenging season.
Pegula, who found a temporary partner in Giuliana Olmos for the Canadian Open, made it clear that she remains uncertain about resuming the partnership with Gauff for the remainder of the year.
Following her singles victory in Canada, she expressed her intention to focus more on singles as the US Open approaches, stating:
“I probably will take it easy on the doubles the rest of the year… maybe just focus on singles.”
Similarly, Gauff, who skipped the doubles event in Canada, echoed Pegula’s sentiments. She indicated that she would be prioritizing her singles career and not playing doubles regularly for the foreseeable future, citing the physical demands of playing both events week after week.
