The Philadelphia Phillies had a disappointing end to their season despite capturing the NL East title for the first time since 2011.
Their hopes were dashed after they were defeated in four games by the New York Mets in the Division Series, leaving several pressing questions for the team’s offseason plans.
The Phillies are already rumored to be pursuing Juan Soto in free agency and are reportedly open to trade offers for players such as third baseman Alec Bohm and outfielders Nick Castellanos and Brandon Marsh.
Another player who could potentially be moved is second baseman Bryson Stott, leaving an opening in the infield if Soto doesn’t join the team.

At the MLB general manager meetings, agent Scott Boras suggested that Astros third baseman Alex Bregman, his client, would be willing to play second base if needed, as reported by Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Boras highlighted Bregman’s postseason experience, emphasizing his rare combination of versatility and leadership.
According to Boras: “the demand for a player of Bregman’s caliber who can play multiple infield positions, including second base, makes him a valuable asset.”
Adding Bregman to the infield could be a valuable move for the Phillies, especially if he can complement Alec Bohm, who earned an All-Star selection this past season. Although Stott has been reliable at second, Bregman’s postseason record and potential as a leader might offer an edge.
Bregman’s major league experience at second base is limited to nine games, where he posted a flawless 1.000 fielding percentage. In 2024, Bregman recorded a .260 batting average, a .315 on-base percentage, a .453 slugging percentage, 26 home runs, and 75 RBI across 145 games, making him one of the top infielders in this free agent class.
As the Phillies prepare for the offseason, it remains to be seen if they’ll make a big move and, if so, whether they’ll create space by moving either Stott or Bohm to accommodate Bregman in their roster.
