The Philadelphia Phillies secured their first NL East title in 13 years, defeating the Cubs 9-6 and benefitting from a Brewers’ loss to the Pirates.

With this win, the Phillies earned a first-round bye, a much-needed break after a challenging summer. Manager Rob Thomson led the team in a subdued celebration when they clinched a playoff spot in New York, with the goal of finishing the season strong and winning the division.

The real celebration, however, came after clinching the division, when the team gathered in the clubhouse for champagne showers.

Thomson reminded the team of owner John Middleton’s words from spring training, where he passionately declared his desire to reclaim the World Series trophy. True to form, Middleton echoed that sentiment in the locker room, exclaiming:

“I want my f***ing trophy back!” as the champagne flowed and the party commenced.

Middleton’s connection to the team and the city is undeniable. His hands-on leadership style and deep understanding of the fanbase have made him a beloved figure. Fans appreciate his passion, and with the World Series in sight, Middleton’s legacy continues to grow.
