The Philadelphia Phillies are reportedly pursuing Chicago White Sox All-Star pitcher Garrett Crochet in a major trade.
With Blake Snell likely heading to the Los Angeles Dodgers, competition for Crochet—a 26-year-old left-hander—has intensified. Phillies’ President of Baseball Operations, Dave Dombrowski, may need to offer an enticing package to finalize the deal before other teams step in.
Philadelphia’s rotation currently includes Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Cristopher Sánchez, and Ranger Suárez, but veteran Taijuan Walker has struggled. Walker’s 2024 campaign featured a disappointing 7.10 ERA in 83 2/3 innings. Crochet, in contrast, posted a 3.58 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, and 209 strikeouts over 146 innings, earning his first All-Star nod.
A proposed trade from FanSided’s Chris Landers includes sending Alec Bohm, Justin Crawford, Starlyn Caba, and Walker to the White Sox.
Bohm, despite postseason struggles, was an All-Star with 97 RBIs in 2024. Crawford and Caba rank among the Phillies’ top prospects, making the deal potentially lucrative for Chicago.
White Sox GM Chris Getz may delay negotiations, leveraging Crochet’s two team-controlled years to maximize value. As offseason demand for left-handed starters escalates, Philadelphia’s window for securing Crochet narrows.
Will this hypothetical package be enough to land the ace? Time will tell.
