The Philadelphia Phillies announced a series of front-office adjustments on Friday, highlighted by the promotion of assistant general manager Preston Mattingly to vice president and general manager.

Sam Fuld, who held the GM position for the past four years, will move into a new role as president of business operations after completing his studies at Penn’s Wharton School in 2026. In the interim, Fuld and Mattingly will share general manager duties under the oversight of Dave Dombrowski, president of baseball operations.

Expressing enthusiasm about the shift, Fuld stated:

“The opportunity to collaborate across baseball and business operations is an exciting one, and I’m honored to be entrusted with helping to build upon the many great elements of this organization.”

Mattingly, son of six-time All-Star Don Mattingly, has quickly risen through the Phillies’ ranks since joining as director of player development in 2021 and later becoming assistant GM. Prior to his time with the Phillies, Mattingly spent five years in the Padres’ scouting department.

The Phillies also made additional promotions, advancing Luke Murton to director of player development and appointing Edwar Gonzalez as director of hitting development.

Dombrowski praised the advancements, describing the continued growth of Fuld and Mattingly as “remarkable” and emphasizing the stability these promotions will bring to the organization’s future.
