Following the Raiders’ tenth consecutive loss in a 15-9 defeat to the Falcons on Monday night, head coach Antonio Pierce faced tough questions about his future.
When asked Tuesday if he believes he’ll return next season, Pierce responded:
“I’m under contract.”
This season has been fraught with challenges for Pierce, who earned the full-time role after an impressive stint as interim coach in 2023.
Owner Mark Davis’ recent comments suggest uncertainty about Pierce’s tenure.
“I want to see progress. There’s no excuses,” Davis said last week. “If there’s going to be a finger pointed, it should be at me. At this point, we’re not happy, but we’ll re-evaluate.”
The Raiders’ offensive struggles, exacerbated by quarterback injuries, have contributed to a bottom-five offense. Gardner Minshew, Aidan O’Connell, and Desmond Ridder have all taken snaps this season. Mistakes, including blocked punts and giveaways, marred Monday’s effort despite solid defensive play.
With just three games left, O’Connell’s possible return offers hope. These final weeks may determine Pierce’s fate, as a contract alone won’t ensure his position for 2025.
