British broadcaster Piers Morgan has highly praised Roger Federer’s newly released documentary, “Federer: Twelve Final Days,” directed by Asif Kapadia and Joe Sabia.
The documentary, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video on June 20, 2024, chronicles the final moments of Federer’s legendary tennis career, culminating in his emotional farewell at the 2022 Laver Cup.
Morgan took to social media platform X to share his admiration for both the film and Federer. He described the documentary as “fantastic” and lauded Federer as one of the classiest individuals in sports history.
Morgan’s appreciation was evident as he stated, “Just watched this. What a fantastic film. Federer isn’t just one of the world’s all-time sporting greats, he’s one of the classiest people to ever grace any sporting arena.”
This is not the first time Morgan has expressed his admiration for Federer. In December 2023, during an interview with tennis player Nick Kyrgios, Morgan remarked on Federer’s class, contrasting it with Kyrgios’s less formal behavior at a press conference during Wimbledon 2022.
Federer’s documentary delves into the emotional experiences he faced during his farewell match at the Laver Cup.
Federer, who partnered with Rafael Nadal in his final professional match against Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock, reflected on his inability to hold back tears during the event. Despite feeling composed during pre-match interviews and the game itself, the finality of the moment overwhelmed him.
“I think it definitely hit me, maybe I was going to become emotional at the very end. Even though I did feel I was solid… And then, I don’t know, at the end it was just, you know, it’s like okay, I mean, this is it, and… You know, kind of what happens next,” Federer shared in the documentary.
Federer’s illustrious career boasts 20 Grand Slam titles, including a record eight at Wimbledon, making him the most successful male player in the tournament’s history.
The documentary offers fans an intimate glimpse into the final days of a tennis icon whose grace and sportsmanship have left an indelible mark on the sport.
