The Pittsburgh Steelers have started the 2024 season 2-0, despite only scoring 31 points and just one touchdown in two games.

This achievement makes them the first team since the 2000 Detroit Lions to win their first two games with such limited scoring. What makes this run even more remarkable is that it has been done with backup quarterback Justin Fields leading the offense.

Starting QB Russell Wilson has been out due to a calf strain and has missed the last two games. He could miss the next game as well against the Los Angeles Chargers.

As Wilson works toward recovery, ESPN’s Adam Schefter, appearing on “The Pat McAfee Show,” stated that the Steelers plan to stick with Fields for now. “Russell Wilson is working his way back and as long as that’s the case Justin Fields is the starter. You’re not gonna take the guy out of the lineup when you’re winning football games,” Schefter explained.

Fields has accumulated 273 passing yards and one touchdown in his two starts. Despite penalties that wiped away over 100 yards of his passing against the Broncos, he has maintained a high level of accuracy, ranking fourth in the NFL in completion percentage over expectation. Meanwhile, Wilson, who threw 26 touchdowns to just eight interceptions in 2023, remains an option once healthy.

The Steelers face a decision on who will lead their offense moving forward while also addressing issues with penalties and their offensive line rotation.
