Emma Raducanu recently addressed remarks made by Judy Murray in response to her unexpected withdrawal from a mixed doubles match at Wimbledon.

Raducanu emphasized that she believed Judy Murray had no ill intentions behind her comments.

Over the weekend, Marcus Buckland posted on X, describing Raducanu’s late withdrawal from the match with Andy Murray as “astonishing.” Judy Murray responded to Buckland’s post with a simple, “Yes, astonishing,” which led to speculation that she was criticizing Raducanu.

The reaction from the public was mixed, with some criticizing Judy Murray, prompting her to temporarily restrict access to her posts. Judy later clarified that her comment was meant to be sarcastic.

Raducanu’s Wimbledon journey ended shortly after this incident, with a tough three-set loss to world No. 123, Lulu Sun. Following her match, Raducanu was asked about Judy Murray’s remarks. She responded with a smile, stating she hadn’t seen Judy’s reaction and expressing confidence that Judy didn’t intend any harm.

Regarding her decision to withdraw from the mixed doubles match, Raducanu cited wrist stiffness as the reason, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing her health, especially given her history of wrist surgeries. She explained that the decision, though difficult, was necessary to avoid further injury.

Despite the mixed doubles withdrawal, Raducanu reflected positively on her grass-court season. She reached the semifinals in Nottingham and the quarterfinals in Eastbourne, securing victories over top-10 players Jessica Pegula and Maria Sakkari. These achievements, she noted, were significant milestones, especially given her recovery from surgery just six months prior.

Raducanu expressed satisfaction with her progress and the rekindled desire to compete. She emphasized the importance of steady improvement rather than rapid success, drawing on her previous experience winning the US Open. As she looks forward to the hard-court season in North America, Raducanu is set to re-enter the top 100 in the WTA rankings.

In the coming weeks, Raducanu plans to take a short break before resuming training for the North American hard court swing, beginning with the tournament in Washington.
