Emma Raducanu’s recent decisions, while surprising to some, appear to be part of a carefully considered strategy that is now yielding positive results.

Earlier this year, Raducanu demonstrated her clay-court abilities by helping Great Britain secure a place in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals with two significant victories against France. Her fans eagerly anticipated her participation in the French Open and the Paris Olympics, expecting her to build on this momentum. However, Raducanu took a different approach, choosing to skip both events.

The young Brit decided to miss the French Open to focus on an early preparation for Wimbledon by shifting her attention to grass courts. This gamble paid off as she performed admirably on grass, despite a disappointing end to her Wimbledon run at the hands of qualifier Lulu Sun. Nevertheless, her early switch to grass allowed her to accumulate valuable points and fine-tune her game on her preferred surface.

In another unexpected move, Raducanu opted out of the Paris Olympics, citing the physical toll of transitioning between surfaces as a key factor in her decision.

This choice allowed her to shift her focus to the hard-court season earlier than many of her peers, beginning with the Citi Open in Washington. So far, this strategy has proven successful, with Raducanu securing two consecutive wins at the tournament. After her victory over Peyton Stearns, Raducanu expressed confidence in her growing momentum, emphasizing the importance of building consistency as she progresses through the event.

Looking ahead, Raducanu faces a tough challenge in Paula Badosa, a formidable opponent who has been in strong form. Despite the difficult path ahead, Raducanu’s recent performances suggest that she is well-prepared to continue her winning streak.
