After a disappointing first-round exit at the 2024 US Open, Emma Raducanu has pledged to reevaluate her schedule following criticism for her limited match preparation prior to the tournament.
The 2021 US Open champion, now 21, spent much of 2023 recovering from surgeries on both wrists and her left ankle, which forced her to limit her participation in tournaments this season.
Despite this, Raducanu has played 13 events in 2024, with a commendable win-loss record of 18-12. Her highlights include reaching the semi-finals of the Nottingham Open, advancing to the last-16 at Wimbledon, and helping Great Britain secure a spot in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals. However, her decision to skip the Olympics and play only one tournament in the lead-up to the US Open sparked some criticism.
Looking ahead, Raducanu has registered for four tournaments in Asia, beginning with the Korea Open in Seoul on September 16. This will be followed by the China Open in Beijing on September 25, the Guangzhou International Women’s Open on October 21, and the Hong Kong Open on October 28.
Ranked No. 72 in the WTA rankings, Raducanu has a promising opportunity to climb higher, as she has no points to defend for the rest of the year.
With up to 2000 points at stake in these tournaments, her ranking could see a significant boost. Currently, she sits at No. 49 in the WTA Race for 2024.
