Rafael Nadal’s shirt from his 2010 US Open final victory against Novak Djokovic has been sold for a remarkable $72,000, setting a new record for a match-worn tennis shirt.

Nadal’s triumph in that match, where he secured a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 victory, marked his first US Open title and completed his Career Golden Slam, having won all four Majors and an Olympic gold medal.

The auction of this iconic shirt, facilitated by SCP Auctions, underscores Nadal’s enduring legacy in the tennis world. Brendan Wells, Vice President of Acquisitions and Sales at SCP Auctions, praised Nadal as a beloved figure among sports fans, noting that the high sale price is a testament to the Spaniard’s impact on and off the court.

Nadal, who has since won the US Open three more times, recently announced his withdrawal from the 2024 edition of the tournament, citing concerns about his competitiveness. His absence this year adds to the speculation that his appearance at the 2022 US Open might have been his last at Flushing Meadows.
