Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce addressed the media after his team’s narrow 20-16 victory over the Cleveland Browns, reflecting on the resilience and character shown by his squad.

After a disappointing loss the previous week, Pierce emphasized the importance of character during adversity and the mindset required to bounce back.

When asked what he learned about his team, Pierce replied:

“Character. That’s what we talked about this week. True character comes out through adversity, through hardship, and we’re humble. We got a wake-up call last week, and it’s all about how you respond.”

Pierce also touched on his leadership, saying:

“This was my first time going through such a situation as a head coach. It was disappointing, but just like the players, I have to move forward after 24 hours. Every week presents a new challenge.”

One significant aspect of the game was the absence of key players like Maxx Crosby and Davante Adams. Pierce confirmed that both would miss the game but saw it as an opportunity for younger players to step up.

“We’re excited about Jakobi Meyers, Tre Tucker, DJ Turner, and others who will have to fill in. No one can replace Davante Adams, but they just need to be the best versions of themselves.”

Despite being asked repeatedly about the Browns, Pierce made it clear that the focus was on the Raiders improving themselves.

“It’s always about us getting better,” he said. “We’re not concerned about the opponent’s issues. Our job is to field the best team and execute situational football.”

With many players sidelined, Pierce is leaning on his team’s depth and preparation.

“We do a lot of teaching in practice to ensure our backups are ready. They get reps, and we expect them to step up when called upon.”

Pierce also highlighted the importance of the Raiders’ connection with the local community, especially with the Little League World Series team attending the game.

“It’s important to connect with the community. Our fanbase is nationwide, but we have to take care of home, and home is Nevada.”

In closing, Pierce reaffirmed his confidence in his team, stating that the adversity they faced would only make them stronger in the long run.
