As the Las Vegas Raiders inch closer to finalizing their starting quarterback for the upcoming season, the team has made a significant roster move by releasing quarterback Anthony Brown Jr. on Friday.
Brown, 26, joined the Raiders earlier this year after a stint with the Baltimore Ravens in 2022. An undrafted free agent from Oregon, Brown struggled in his most recent performance during the Raiders’ narrow 24-23 preseason loss to the Minnesota Vikings, completing just one out of three pass attempts.
With Brown’s departure, the Raiders now have four quarterbacks remaining on their roster: Aidan O’Connell, Gardner Minshew, Nathan Peterman, and Carter Bradley.
The competition between O’Connell, the incumbent, and Minshew, a free-agent acquisition, continues to heat up as the team prepares for its next preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Veteran Nathan Peterman, recently re-signed by the Raiders, is emerging as a strong candidate for the third quarterback position. Peterman, 30, previously played for the Raiders from 2018 to 2021 and is familiar with the team’s new offensive coordinator, Luke Getsy, from their time together with the Chicago Bears.
Carter Bradley, an undrafted free agent, is expected to compete for a spot on the practice squad. The Raiders will showcase all four quarterbacks in Saturday night’s game at Allegiant Stadium, set for 7 p.m. PT, as the team continues to assess its options ahead of the regular season.
