Antonio Pierce’s promotion to full-time head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders followed his success as interim coach in 2023, where his defense showed remarkable improvement.
After Josh McDaniels’ departure, Pierce’s leadership resulted in the defense holding opponents to fewer than 21 points in seven out of nine games. The team finished that season with a 5-4 record under his guidance.
However, the 2024 season has told a different story. In the first three games, the Raiders’ defense has allowed more than 21 points in each contest, conceding 22, 23, and 36 points respectively. Despite having a talented defense, the team has struggled to maintain consistency, leading to a 1-2 record.
Concerns have been raised about the unit’s inability to tighten up, even though they’ve displayed flashes of quality play.
Other developments for the Raiders include limited snaps for running back Zamir White and the team’s declining playoff chances based on early-season performance. Wide receiver Davante Adams remains optimistic, discussing plans to turn the season around.
