Rangers are set to make another attempt to secure Joan Jordan from Sevilla after their initial loan bid was rejected, according to Spanish journalist Fernando Serrano.
The 30-year-old midfielder had been the subject of a previous offer where Rangers proposed covering 30% of his wages, but Sevilla insisted on a minimum 50-50 wage split to consider the move.
Rangers’ interest in Jordan is part of manager Philippe Clement’s strategy to bolster the midfield, an area identified as needing reinforcement. Currently, the midfield roster includes Nicolas Raskin, Mohamed Diomande, and Connor Barron, with additional support from Tom Lawrence, Kieran Dowell, and Todd Cantwell. Despite this depth, Jordan’s experience and quality are seen as vital assets for a squad relatively untested at higher competitive levels.
Jordan’s potential arrival would not only enhance Rangers’ ability to control games but also bring much-needed experience to the team. Given Raskin’s recent injury and Jordan’s limited playing time at Sevilla, a loan deal appears mutually beneficial.
However, the wage negotiations remain a sticking point, with a 50-50 split seeming a more feasible arrangement for both clubs.
The ongoing transfer activities underline the club’s proactive approach in strengthening the squad ahead of the new season.
