Rangers captain James Tavernier has reportedly been offered an exceptionally lucrative deal by Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq, managed by his former boss Steven Gerrard.
The 32-year-old defender has been an integral part of Rangers for nine years, during which he has won five major domestic trophies, including the prestigious 2020-21 Scottish Premiership title and the Scottish League Cup in the most recent season.
Tavernier, renowned for his offensive capabilities as a right-back, has amassed an impressive tally of 125 goals and 129 assists in 460 appearances for Rangers across all competitions.
Remarkably, he has netted at least 18 goals in each of the last four seasons. Despite having two years left on his contract with Rangers, speculation about his future has intensified, especially with rumors suggesting that manager Philippe Clement might strip him of his captaincy.
Reports from Football Insider indicate that Tavernier has agreed to the “astronomical” financial terms proposed by Al Ettifaq, which finished sixth in the Saudi Pro League last season. While personal terms have been settled, the clubs have yet to agree on a transfer fee. Nonetheless, the completion of the deal seems increasingly likely.
Tavernier’s potential move to Al Ettifaq would see him join notable players such as Scotland’s Jack Hendry, former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, and ex-Everton winger Demarai Gray.
This transfer news surfaced shortly before Tavernier was featured in the launch of Rangers’ new home kit on Thursday evening.
Meanwhile, Rangers have been active in the transfer market, securing five new players, including goalkeeper Liam Kelly, who joined on a free transfer from Motherwell.
