Rangers have expressed interest in Cheikh Niasse, the €3.5 million-rated defensive midfielder from BSC Young Boys, as part of manager Philippe Clement’s efforts to strengthen the team.
Journalist Gianluigi Longari of Sportitalia reports that Rangers have inquired about the availability of the 24-year-old Senegalese player.
Niasse, who made 38 appearances for Young Boys last season, including matches in the UEFA Europa League, has also attracted interest from Italian Serie A club Udinese. His contract with Young Boys extends until June 2026.
Niasse’s career began with French lower league side Boulogne, followed by a move to Lille’s academy in 2016. He signed his first professional contract with Lille in 2019 and debuted in Ligue 1 against Saint-Etienne. Notably, he played against Celtic in the Europa League group stage in December 2020 and had a loan spell at Panathinaikos in the Greek Superleague.
Rangers’ recruitment team, led by Clement and Nils Koppen, has already secured several signings, including Connor Barron from Aberdeen. The potential addition of Niasse would further strengthen their midfield options as they aim to challenge Celtic for the Premiership title in the upcoming season.
