The Miami Heat’s performance in the 2024 NBA Summer League, culminating in a championship win, showcased several young talents, but none more so than Kel’el Ware.

At 7 feet tall with a 7-foot-7 wingspan, Ware’s dominant presence quieted pre-draft concerns about his frame and motor. Selected 15th overall, Ware is already being hailed as a potential draft steal, thanks to Miami’s scouting prowess.

Ware’s Summer League stats were impressive, averaging 18 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.0 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game, with a shooting percentage of 61.8% from the field and 30% from three-point range. His performance suggests that he is ready to make an immediate impact alongside Bam Adebayo.

The first reason Ware starting with Adebayo is a smart move is his functional size. Moving Adebayo to power forward will bolster Miami’s frontcourt.

Ware’s rebounding and ability to handle switches can enhance this lineup. His college stats, including 15.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game, along with a 43% shooting from three-point range, indicate his potential to add valuable floor spacing.

Secondly, Ware’s two-way versatility complements Adebayo’s defensive prowess.

Adebayo, an NBA All-Defensive first-team player and Defensive Player of the Year finalist, benefits from having a partner like Ware. This duo can emulate the successful frontcourt strategy of Team USA with Anthony Davis and Adebayo. Ware’s ability to defend the rim and shoot from range makes him a valuable asset on both ends of the court.

His summer league performance showcased his diverse offensive skills, including finishing lobs, making floaters, and shooting from the post, indicating a promising partnership with Adebayo that could elevate the Heat’s game.
