The Denver Broncos will be without veteran offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey, a crucial figure in protecting rookie quarterback Bo Nix, for about a month due to a significant MCL sprain.

The injury occurred late in the Broncos’ 13-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, where McGlinchey got rolled up from behind by teammate Garett Bolles and a defender. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo initially reported the injury on September 16, and the timeline for McGlinchey’s return remains fluid as evaluations continue.

McGlinchey, who signed a five-year, $87.5 million contract with the Broncos in 2023, had been a strong supporter of Nix, praising his authenticity and leadership since joining the team. Losing McGlinchey is a significant setback, especially as the Broncos’ offensive line has struggled early this season.

In McGlinchey’s absence, second-year player Alex Palczewski stepped in during the game but has limited experience, having played just a handful of snaps on offense. Another possible replacement is undrafted rookie Frank Crum, who has been inactive the first two games, but impressed head coach Sean Payton during training camp. Additionally, veteran Matt Peart could be a dark horse candidate to replace McGlinchey if Palczewski falters.

The Broncos face the blitz-heavy Tampa Bay Buccaneers next week, putting extra pressure on whoever fills McGlinchey’s role.
