Serie A runners-up Milan are reportedly on the verge of signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal as their second acquisition of the summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, final negotiations between the clubs will occur today after Emerson agreed to personal terms with Milan.
Milan has targeted Emerson since early summer, with coach Paulo Fonseca prioritizing the Brazilian as a replacement for Davide Calabria on the right flank. Frustrated by limited playing time at Tottenham, Emerson decided weeks ago to join Milan, but the clubs struggled to agree on a fee. Tottenham’s initial demand was €25 million, but they have since softened their stance, partly due to Emerson’s insistence on the move.
Emerson, who fell out of favor last season with Pedro Porro becoming a regular starter, sees this transfer as a chance for a fresh start. It remains unclear if he will immediately replace Calabria or serve as his backup.
His arrival is timely, especially since Alessandro Florenzi, who covered for Calabria last season, sustained a significant injury during a recent friendly against Manchester United.
