Ryan Williams has made an impressive entrance into Alabama football, racking up six receptions for 207 yards and three touchdowns in just two games.
As a true freshman, he’s already turning heads and has set high expectations for himself, especially when it comes to comparing his performance to past Alabama greats.
During an episode of the New Wave Podcast, Williams expressed his admiration for former Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith, calling him his all-time favorite.
“I ain’t gonna lie, [DeVonta Smith] is my #1. I don’t care. My dog won the Heisman. I got to give it to him,” Williams said. However, he added a competitive note, saying, “But don’t think I ain’t coming for you, my boy.”
Smith, who had a remarkable career at Alabama, capped it off by winning the Heisman Trophy in 2020. His senior season saw him catch 117 passes for 1,856 yards and 23 touchdowns.
By the end of his four-year tenure with the Crimson Tide, Smith accumulated nearly 4,000 receiving yards and 46 touchdowns, solidifying his legacy as one of Alabama’s greatest receivers.
Williams hopes to continue his strong start as Alabama prepares for a non-conference matchup against Wisconsin.
