Iga Swiatek remains at the top of the WTA rankings for the 45th consecutive week, but Aryna Sabalenka is closing the gap following her US Open victory.

Swiatek, who has held the No. 1 position for a total of 120 weeks, now ranks eighth in WTA history for most weeks at the top. Despite her lead over Sabalenka, the margin has shrunk to 2,169 points, and with Swiatek having more points to defend in the final months of 2024, the race for the year-end No. 1 spot will likely be decided at the WTA Finals in Riyadh.

Jessica Pegula’s rise to No. 3 after her first Grand Slam final in New York marks her highest ranking since August 2023.

Coco Gauff, who lost to fellow American Emma Navarro in the fourth round, dropped to No. 6, while Navarro’s semi-final run propelled her to a career-best No. 8.

Emma Raducanu, however, missed a key opportunity to climb the rankings. Starting the North American hard-court season at No. 89, she briefly rose to No. 69 after a quarter-final finish in Washington DC. However, a first-round exit at the US Open left her at No. 72, just two places below fellow Brit Harriet Dart, who is now ranked second in the British rankings behind Katie Boulter. Raducanu will feel this was a missed chance to make further progress.
