The New Orleans Saints have restructured tight end Juwan Johnson’s contract, creating $3.5 million in cap space, according to Field Yates.
Johnson, 27, recently returned to action after being activated from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list due to an injury sustained during training camp. Originally an undrafted free agent from Oregon, Johnson joined the Saints in 2020 as a wide receiver before converting to tight end.
Johnson’s journey with the Saints saw early struggles, as he was waived after training camp and spent time between the practice squad and active roster. His perseverance paid off, leading to a one-year deal for the 2022 season and later a two-year, $12 million extension before the 2023 season.
In the 2023 season, Johnson played in 13 games, accumulating 37 receptions for 368 yards and four touchdowns. His restructured contract now helps the Saints manage their salary cap, freeing up space for the upcoming NFL season.
