The New Orleans Saints have unexpectedly waived wide receiver A.T. Perry, a 2023 sixth-round pick, from their 53-man roster.
The 6-foot-5 receiver had established a role for himself, making the release surprising. During the NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers showed significant interest in Perry, particularly impressed by his performance at the Shrine Bowl. Perry’s ability to play on the outside and block fits the Steelers’ current search for a wide receiver.
Pittsburgh is reportedly exploring options to bolster its receiving corps, amid trade rumors surrounding star wideout Davante Adams. While Van Jefferson and Calvin Austin III have seen playing time, their productivity has been limited.
Perry, a Wake Forest standout who was a two-time All-ACC selection, has recorded 12 catches for 246 yards and four touchdowns in his NFL career thus far.
The Steelers currently have one open roster spot, but it’s likely reserved for linebacker Jeremiah Moon, who is returning from injury. Still, if the team wants to claim Perry off waivers, they have a chance to add him without making further adjustments.
