The New Orleans Saints recently addressed their wide receiver depth by signing Marquez Valdes-Scantling, a move made necessary after injuries sidelined starters Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed.
Since joining the team on October 22, Valdes-Scantling has made an immediate impact, delivering big plays and providing stability to a struggling offense.
Originally drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2018, Valdes-Scantling built a reputation as a deep-threat receiver, tallying over 2,000 yards and 13 touchdowns in four seasons. After a productive stint with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he contributed to two Super Bowl runs, he joined the Buffalo Bills but failed to find a rhythm. Following his release, the Saints seized the opportunity to add him to their roster.
In his brief time with New Orleans, Valdes-Scantling has impressed with his ability to stretch defenses. Highlights include a 103-yard, two-touchdown game against the Atlanta Falcons and a 71-yard touchdown against the Browns. Despite limited targets, his three touchdowns and 33.5 yards per catch average showcase his efficiency.
With his size, speed, and chemistry with quarterback Derek Carr, Valdes-Scantling has proven his value. Offering him a contract extension now would not only provide long-term security at the position but also create a dynamic trio alongside Olave and Shaheed in 2024.
