Boston Celtics sharpshooter Sam Hauser has secured his future with the team by signing a new contract extension.
This deal comes after a remarkable season that culminated in the Celtics winning the NBA Championship, with Hauser playing a critical role, particularly in Game 4 of the Finals, where he scored 14 points and knocked down four out of six three-pointers.
This performance, along with his consistent shooting prowess, likely convinced the Celtics to offer him a four-year, $45 million extension.
Hauser expressed deep gratitude for the Celtics’ faith in him, especially given how his NBA journey began. After going undrafted in 2021, the Celtics took a chance on him with a three-year, $5.65 million contract. Hauser seized this opportunity, proving his value to the team with his exceptional three-point shooting.
Reflecting on his journey, Hauser said:
“Pretty special that they gave me an opportunity early on when nobody else did, and I just tried to run with it. They believed in me, and I’m just glad I can be here and be with this team and have another chance to win it all.”
In his rookie season, Hauser averaged just 2.5 points in 6.1 minutes per game across 26 appearances, but his impressive 43.2% shooting from beyond the arc quickly caught attention.
This efficiency earned him more playing time in the following seasons, allowing him to gradually increase his contributions on the court. By the 2023-24 season, Hauser was playing 22.0 minutes per game and posting averages of 9.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists.
Hauser’s consistent improvement and reliable shooting were instrumental in the Celtics’ championship run, making his extension a logical move for the team.
Retaining Hauser ensures that Boston maintains its offensive efficiency, especially from the perimeter, as they aim for continued success in the coming seasons.
