In a remarkable moment at The Open Championship, PGA Tour pro Si Woo Kim achieved the first-ever hole-in-one on the 238-yard par-3 17th hole at Royal Troon.
This feat occurred on Saturday, marking a historic milestone as no player had previously aced this hole in the ten times the course has hosted The Open.
Kim, guided by his caddie’s advice to use a 3-iron, executed a powerful shot that landed perfectly. Initially unaware of his achievement, Kim only realized the ball had gone in after hearing the crowd’s cheers. The realization led to a celebratory fist pump and high-fives with his caddie.
Reflecting on his extraordinary shot, Kim shareda:
“I’ve had many holes-in-one in my life, perhaps over ten, and about six to eight times in tournaments. But this one stands out as the most memorable.”
This ace was his fifth on the PGA Tour but his first in a major championship.
Despite the highlight of his hole-in-one, Kim’s overall performance in the tournament has been challenging. He finished his Saturday round with an even par, featuring four birdies, six bogeys, and the unforgettable ace, leaving him at 5-over par with 18 holes remaining.
This incredible moment at The Open adds a significant highlight to Kim’s career, showcasing his talent and ability to deliver under pressure.
