Simon Jordan has expressed disbelief at Arsenal’s £50 million valuation of striker Eddie Nketiah.
Despite a contract extending until 2027, Nketiah’s future with the Gunners is uncertain after a season of limited impact.
Arsenal, who narrowly missed topping the Premier League last season, are seeking to strengthen their attack to challenge for the title next season. This strategy, however, casts doubt on Nketiah’s role within the team.
Last season, the 25-year-old striker scored six goals across 37 appearances in all competitions. He spent most of the final Premier League games on the bench, playing only 28 minutes in the last 12 matches.
Arsenal’s reported demand for £50 million for Nketiah has raised eyebrows. On talkSport, Simon Jordan was particularly taken aback by the figure.
“If you want to get £40 million, you ask for £50 million,” Jordan remarked. “But is he worth £50 million? You’ve got to be joking. He’s not a £50 million footballer; he’s lucky to be a £30 million footballer and on £100,000-a-week!”
Nketiah, who joined Arsenal’s academy at 14 after leaving Chelsea, made his senior debut in the Europa League in 2017 and has since accumulated 168 appearances, scoring 38 goals and providing seven assists. However, with Arsenal eyeing new forwards, his position is precarious.
The Gunners initially targeted Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko, but he signed a new contract with RB Leipzig, removing his release clause.
Arsenal has also shown interest in Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres and VfB Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy as potential replacements. Additionally, Everton’s Amadou Onana is seen as a top target to succeed Thomas Partey.
The potential sale of Nketiah could facilitate Arsenal’s summer transfer plans, though the steep asking price may pose a challenge.
