Leeds United’s aspirations of signing Joe Rodon on a permanent basis have hit a snag as Southampton prepare to bid for the Tottenham defender.

According to TEAMtalk, the Saints have expressed serious interest in Rodon, who impressed during his loan spell at Leeds with 17 clean sheets in 43 Championship matches during the 2023-24 season.

Despite Rodon’s apparent willingness to make a permanent move to Elland Road, Leeds face financial constraints that require them to sell players before making new acquisitions.

Tottenham’s asking price for the 26-year-old Welsh international is reportedly between £12-15 million, a figure Leeds can only consider if they generate sufficient funds from outgoing transfers.

Rodon’s performance under Leeds manager Daniel Farke was pivotal, and he would have been a central figure in their promotion campaign if Leeds had triumphed over Southampton in the play-off final.

Now, with Southampton back in the Premier League, they have a distinct advantage in attracting the player. However, Rodon might still favor a return to Leeds, given his successful stint there.

Both clubs are also reportedly interested in signing Coventry City’s Callum O’Hare, indicating a competitive transfer market between them.

Rodon, who joined Tottenham from Swansea City in 2020, has made only 15 Premier League appearances for Spurs. At this crucial stage of his career, he seeks a stable and promising contract.

The possibility that Leeds and Southampton might exchange positions in the league next year adds another layer of consideration for the defender’s decision.

Leeds United’s immediate focus is on balancing their finances through player sales before committing to significant investments like Rodon.

The club remains hopeful but faces stiff competition from Southampton for the Welsh defender’s signature.
