The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed safety Terrell Edmunds, adding depth to their defense.

Originally drafted in the first round in 2018 by Pittsburgh, Edmunds spent five seasons with the team before departing in free agency last year.

After brief stints with the Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Titans, and a recent placement on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad, Edmunds returns to familiar territory.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin discussed the rationale behind the decision, emphasizing Edmunds’ fit within the team.

“He’s someone who knows us, and we know him,” Tomlin said, highlighting the importance of familiarity as the season progresses. “At this point, you can’t have enough players who understand this environment. While it’s not an immediate need, that could change in the coming weeks.”

The Steelers’ defense performed strongly in their Week 1 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. With Edmunds just 27 and in his prime, the Steelers aim to strengthen their already formidable defense. Pittsburgh will face the Denver Broncos next, with kickoff scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday.
